"Mute Clay" is an installation created for the 5th annual Artist Beit Midrash exhibition at Town and Village Synagogue, East 14th street, NY, on March 20, 2019.
A physical and emotional reaction to the ordeal of translation and language, and the sympathetic reading of Esther as karkah olam (direct translation: dirt of the earth), compelled me to force as much clay as I could into my mouth and create objects from that cavity. These pieces were then strung up with wire from the ceiling of the space, at various (mouth adjacent) heights.
