Lunarfest is a ten-day festival held at the Vancouver Art Gallery Plaza and the Toronto Harbourfront Centre. The festival aims to inspire and encourage new Canadians, professional artists, and children to share their creativity and contribute to the country’s rich, diverse, and multicultural environment. My objective is to develop a new approach of the festival's branding that effectively communicates the qualities of the zodiac animal of year 2012, the black water dragon. Focusing on modern, bold, and symbolic aesthetics, I designed a central image that is used in the poster, tickets, and brochure and is made up of nine number '9s'. 9’ is an iconic number in Chinese culture and is associated with the dragon’s nine attributes, number of scales and offspring.
