Apprenticeship: Natural Dyes

I decided to travel to Oaxaca to learn about their artisans and natural dyeing. I was specifically interested in cochineal because it gives a wide range of colors and has a very interesting history behind it. This is a tiny insect that grows in a certain type of cactus called ¨nopal¨. The red color that it releases is known as ¨nocheztli¨ which means ¨tuna blood. This tuna blood can give a wide range of colors from oranges to violets depending on the ingredients it is mixed with. I took a six day intensive learning course with Mr. Buenaventura, a master in natural dyes. Those are all the colors we made.I want to incorporate this knowledge to the sustainable products I want to develop in the future.
