In this project we are learning the basics of some manufacturing techniques by going through the process of building a table. There are three different procedures that will be touched in this assignment: metal rod bending, mold making and vacuum forming.
The inspiration for the design of this table came from various sources. Some of these were the designer and architect Eileen Gray, some designs from the De Stijl movement, past projects and optical illusions that played with planes and forms.
Table Leg Design and Process
The process to make this table was different to others we had explored. We were given a specific amount of material and a purpose which was to design a table. At first we were given a round table top and that was to be used in this first phase.
Using a Mandrel Bender to bend the table legs and making a fixture to weld the table legs in place.
