I had an eye opening experience when I captured photos for the international Christel House School in South Africa.
Christel House operates eight learning centres internationally and its mission is to break the cycle of poverty. The school in Ottery (Cape Town) is the only one in Africa and students come from 20 communities in the Cape Flats including Philippi, Delft, Langa, Mitchell’s Plain and Manenberg. Students are selected not based on academic merit but financial need and receive holistic, character-based education including transport to the school, daily meals, guidance counselling and healthcare.
The opportunities that Christel House has given these children have paid off and you only need to look at the stats - they have a 100% pass rate for the past 10 years! These photos show the living conditions where many of these children hail from. These photos was taken in Langa, Cape Town.
