For this project I designed a push bike for children made of engineered bamboo and steel.
The reasoning for this is to make a "assemble it yourself" kind of product similar to IKEA furniture but instead its a push bike. This design should be easy to assemble right out of the box with just a single hex screw.
This was my first concept of the design which was supposed to be easy to fabricate and at first looked okay but upon receiving the prototype I immediately noticed all the flaws of the design (it was not durable at all) and improved on it further with with a better concept.
For this design I came up with the idea of having two plates hugging the engineered bamboo. This not only made the process easier to assemble the bike but also more stable and more durable. When I received the prototypes for this I was so happy because it worked out really well. Trial and error really pays off.
As you can see from the photos the children really enjoyed the push bike!
I call this the "Sandwich System" which is still being used by Bambike with their more recent iterations (not by me).
