Artist's Statement:

For this project, I picked the flag of North Pole, Alaska. This cities flag was terrible, depicting a Santa Claus and candy canes in a village. North Pole, Alaska is famous for its spirit of Christmas all year round, as it is less then 2000 miles from the earth's geographical North Pole. This city is also responsible for the reply to hundreds of thousands of letters for Santa Claus. To embody the Christmas spirit in this flag, I incorporated all Christmas colors for it. I put an arrow facing up to indicate how close this city is from the North Pole. I made a blue cross to symbolize the one river that goes through it, but also to make the whole thing resemble a gift, as that is what the letters that go there are usually asking for. The white background is meant to represent the snow, as it is in frigid Alaska. Finally, the red border represents Santa and Christmas as the surrounding theme of this city.
