The Martian, by Andy Weir, is a favourite of mine so I decided to do an illustration and book cover design for it.
I wanted it to be totally reflective of the book and draw no influence from the film so thought it would be best to not focus on the look fo Watney but more him being there and of course the setting of Mars.
My idea was to integrate the planet with his helmet to suggest he is the Martian. A smaller lone figure is stood to kind of give the impression of being alone on Mars.
