//INTRODUCTION

Our annual christmas holidays are often spent on the family cabin in the mountainside in Norway. This cabin dates way back to the 70s, and was built by my grandfather Nils Bakke, who passed away a few years back.

As long as I can remember, we've had two lounge chairs sitting in the main living room in the cabin. It wasn't until the christmas of 2018 I started asking about these chairs, and started to have a closer look at them. I was told these were designed and made by my grandfather as well, and underneath them, we found his signature and that they dated all the way back to 1955.

I decided at that time, that I wanted to pay homage to my grandfather, and his impressive woodworking skills (making not only chairs, but a variety of other furniture). Below you'll see the original chair.

The most important part for me was to preserve the A-frame of the chair, which stands as the very signature-shape of the design. I redid the height, to give it a more relaxed vibe, as well as giving it a more volumous look, to make it stand out more in the room. I also redid the backrest and provided it with a thick cushion. I picture the main material to be traditional pale oak.

The name of the chair speaks for itself, after my grandfather: Nils.

//IN THE CABIN

This is the typical scenario where I see Nils being present - in a modern Norwegian cabin. The room was design with inspiration taken from our own family cabin, as well as the general look of a traditional Norweigan cabin.
