Bicycle Kicks is the ramblings of Simon Hood, a 30-something York City fan who cycled to all of his teams home and away games throughout the 2009/2010 football season. Simon approached me to work on his book cover, which he wanted to be "slightly cartoony" and was to show him travelling on his green bike while pin pointing some of the stops he made throughout his journey.
I had a great time working on this project; even more so when he agreed to a bit of hand lettering! The illustration for the cover wouldn't fit on the front alone so to prevent ugly cut off marks of the artwork, the map was left as originally drawn to wrap around the spine & back of the book cover. The works produced were;
- Lettering & Illustrations for the cover
- Letterings for chapter headers throughout the book, along with a set of B&W illustrated icons relating to selected parts of the journey
- Promo poster design using the artwork and a mock up of the book to announce the release date.
