In this class assignment, students were asked to design a toothbrush. The ROTOH toothbrush series is designed for patients with frozen shoulders,
I started by looking at different toothbrushes on the market, and talking to people about tooth brushing in general.
I discovered a group of people with frozen shoulders, who have trouble raising arms and griping toothbrush at certain angles. They typically are have done lots of housework and have a stable income.
I brainstormed 30+ ideas on paper and further tested them with foam models.
2 out of 24 models were made in high-fidelity based on feedback and votes.
Branded for retiring women, the design language is mature and simply functional.
Reflection:
Testing with real patients would be more convincing than testing with classmates. This is true for both form and brand ideation. I can observe more of what matters to our user and let them prioritize from those concerns. These priority can serve as clear competitive advantage towards competitors and analogous products.
