After researching the pairing of Guy de Cointet and Wim Crouwel, I designed an exhibition poster for a retrospective of de Cointet's artwork at the Museum of Modern Art in the style of Wim Crouwel.
Guy de Cointet was interested in cryptography and how it can be used to codify language. In his work he often created forms that resembled letters and mimicked patterns of written language, but were completely illegible.
Wim Crouwel's work shows that designers can create bold expressive work, even while working within
the confines of a grid system. He serves as a great foil to de Cointet because his design ethos is one
that places comprehension above all other priorities.
