Memory Box

Memory Box is a kit that allow elderly to transfer a thought or memory into a physical object that generates an audiovisual storytelling output that will last over time.
The design brief was to design something making technology more accessible and trustworthy to seniors.

We always think about the physical healty of eldery and how to help them to deal with it
but what about their mental healty, their emotional needs?

We made interviews and focus groups with elderly to better understand what are their needs and thouths. What comes out is the need to share memories with their family and friends but often it’s diffucult because they don’t want to impose stories on anyone, and sometimes they feel anxious talking about emotional topics.
The recorder has been designed to be friendly to the elderly, but it could be used by everyone.

The system and the technologies used are simple and affordable.
The self-generated visual output is abstract and assumes forms and movements
depending on the volumetone and dynamics of the voice.
The feedback was designed with the aim of being consistent with the poetic line of the project, we chose to use light as a metaphor for memory, it goes from the recorder to the key when it is transferred.
