Interview Research

1 Basic Information
The person I interviewed was a Chinese, named Ma. He lived in China, 24 years old, male. He is one of the vulnerable people who lost 78% of their vision. In life he can only see very bright colors and strong light, but he is very optimistic. In the interview, he said that it is always better than see nothing. When I talked about the cause of blindness, he looked a little sad. He sighed and began to talk about his childhood. He said that when he was seven years old, he had a high fever. For various reasons, his cornea caused perforation and softening due to high fever. In the past few weeks, the colorful world has gradually lost its brilliance in the few weeks after the high fever. And nowadays,He not have many friends, working alone and no family.

2 Traveling around
Ma said that the most common place to go after blindness is the school. He hates everyone's disapproval of him because of his blindness. He is pursuing a graduate degree through his own efforts. He said that high education is very rare among disabled people, but he wants to prove that he can do better than normal people. But for schools, there are not many designs for the blind. So when he talked about where make him feel comfortable, Ma did not hesitate to talk about the public transportation. In the public transportation, a large number of Braille fare list, Braille self-service ticket machine etc made Ma travel a lot of convenience.

3 Disadvantages
Of course, although the community gives the disabled people a lot of help, But they still have a lot of inconvenience.Ma claim In the current social system, there are still many companies that are reluctant to hire people with disabilities, especially blind people.Even our country give lots of opportunity for disable people, but as for the number of them, its still not enough. There are still many people who misunderstand that they feel that many professions of the blind are not very competent. In fact, they can do a lot of things, such as surfing the Internet, texting, reading, and so on.In his travels, Ma said that what he fears most is a sudden accident, because it is fatal to people with defective vision. Such as suddenly falling flower pots, running animals and children, and so on.

4 Environment factor
When talking about what kind of environment can help blind people get help. Ma said that a low-noise environment can help them better identify the surrounding environment, because most blind people are discerning directions by making slight noise in addition to guide dogs. The recognition of touch is also important, such as different textures and touches can better help blind people to know where they are.The rational design of the doors and windows can also help the blind to identify the direction.

5 Materials factor
For the demands of the building, Ma hopes to build more designs for the blind during the school, such as the auxiliary light belt for low vision people, the Braille with metal texture, and the symbol. For people with low vision, the auxiliary light strip is very useful. It can greatly improve the convenience of people with low vision. It’s like turning a flashlight in the night, Ma said.

6 Facility factor
Crossing the road, taking the bus, going to the supermarket, we are used to it, but it is a barrier for the blind. The lack of barrier-free facilities in public life prevents people with disabilities from integrating into society. Accessible for the passage of the blind, built with a wheelchair accessible staircase, Indoor guide rod,Braille self-service ticket machine,Elevator guide blind device,Stair railing braille. These devices can greatly improve the safety and efficiency of blind travel.

7 Case study
The human visual sense is very important to everyone. Observing the surrounding environment through the eyes makes us ignore the importance of other senses. For blind people who lose all or most of their vision, judge the surrounding environment through the other organs than vision to become a necessity in daily life. When a blind person enters a new environment, he or she needs to sense the surrounding information through the combined use of senses, hearing and smell. Its perceived behavior is also receiving and feeding back information while interacting with the building. Hazelwood school gives a new definition of blind travel. There is a very unusual walkway in the school. The special shape of the curve and the texture of the ground and the texture and pattern of the walls of different classrooms along the way can help the children to walk freely inside the school without getting lost. The texture of each interior wall is different. The humanity of this design is to increase their feeling of touch except the feeling of the sole. After repeated memory, the children can clearly understand where they are in school.

8 Colour
Architects and interior designers have been exploring the creation of effective sensory facilities. How to enable people regardless of group to be active in the same space is still a long-term effort.Every small architectural feature designed by the designer can be their aid to help them navigate and identify directions easily. For example, people with low vision are not completely blind, they are sensitive to light.Yellow works best for this group, says Paul Mugambi, head of the National Council for Persons with Disability, Nairobi region.“Though most people use yellow sparingly in their interior decoration, it is the preferred color to use on the stairs, the walkway, as well as at the entrance to the home,” he claimed.Adding that the brilliant color helps visually impaired people to navigate their way.George Karani of the design company Invision Concepts Ltd has a different opinion. He said that yellowing along each walkway is monotonous. I recommend using a different texture instead of relying on a different surface for this color, which is more efficient. It can be seen that for low vision people.

9 B4 Hotel
New York's B4 hotels have their own understanding of how to help the blind more effectively. The raised braille floor plan not only helps the visually impaired to distinguish where they are, but also makes the layout of the entire floor clearer. Smell is also an important part of guiding the blind. Different work areas and floors are used to distinguish the smell, which allows the blind to distinguish the general direction by the sense of smell. The different materials of the floor allow the blind to provide critical help in later searches.in addition to the tactile and odour guidelines in the interior design, it is useful to create a vivid contrast between the wall and the ground through colour and contrast. At the same time, reducing shiny objects and glass surfaces can also reduce the possibility of disorienting low vision people.
