Wheelwell Community (2018-2019)

2018

Working exclusively with Head of Product, I was tasked to redesign the Wheelwell Community. The community includes several important facets. It is the core of the Wheelwell business. This includes the User Garage, User Parts Page, both of which are heavily User-Generated Contents (UGCs) custom pages, Product Category Pages (there is now over 500k of them), Vehicle Community Pages, UGC Buyer Guides, as well as Brands Pages – all of which ultimately creates a network-effects community-driven marketplace. The goal of the community marketplace is two-fold. First, it was to link the users who have built an extensive list of parts that they've uploaded to their Garage from their previous purchases and research, and linking them to parts that we sell on Wheelwell. Second, harnessing the UGCs, other users are able to view Wheelwell community as a source of truth for tried-and-tested recommendations for parts that they would otherwise have to scourer the internet forums for.  Even after the acquisition by AutoAnything in early 2020s, the general feedback of this design is that it stands the test of time in terms of ease-of-use and visual appeal for existing and first time users.
Whiteboard Sessions
Below are some of the many whiteboard illustration/quick wireframes that we iterated through to workout the UX of how to harness the existing power of our users's garage and data, and turning them into active communities that will drive high user engagement. Working closely with the Head of Product, we spent many hours and multiple sessions to come up with the best solutions for UX workflows, user profiles/personas to make sense of how to best create the best user experience when we are linking community content and product recommendations together, making the ecosystem a seamless and intrinsic experience.
