평양의 정월대보름

"정월대보름은 휴일이라서, 우리 젊은 세대엔 그저 즐겁고 낭만적인 날이지만 한편으론 남조선 사람들은 모르는 나름의 아픈 역사가 있는 날입니다.

어릴적 고난의행군시절 집안마다 한두사람쯤 탈이 나지 않은 사람이 없었는데 그시기에 당에서 다시금 허락해주시고 설날 정월대보름이라도 웃는 날로 기억되고 있지요.

남조선 인민들도 나름대로 이어지고 있는 전통이라고 알고 있습니다.

올해의 소원은 당연히 한반도의 평화와 교류가 되겠디요. 머지않아 평양에 이 아름다운 야경을 남조선 사람과 함께 관람할날을 기다리고 있겠습니다.

모쪼록 건강하시고 개인적인 소망은 부끄러워서 밝힐수가 없습니다.(웃음)"

 ※정월대보름은 저마다 가족과 자신의 안녕을 빌고 새로 시작되는 한해를 다짐하는 행사로 남북 모두의 명절이다.

북한은 1974년 ‘당의 유일사상 체계확립 10대 원칙’이 발표된 후  수령의 유일사상에 어긋나며 사회주의 체계의 미신 배척 성향으로 정월대보름을 민속명절로 금지시켜왔다. 하지만 그런 억누름은 주민들의 깊은 관습까지 막을수 없었고, 1994년부터 시작된 고난의 행군 시기를 거치며 주민들의 불만이 커지자 당국은 수령에게 향하는 불만을 하늘이나 신령님으로 분산시키기 위해  민족명절로 정식으로 부활하게 되었다. 이후 북한 주민들 사이에서는 ‘낮에는 장군님, 밤에는 하나님’이라는 정월대보름 유머가 생겨나기도 했다.

As Daeboreum, the first full-moon day of the lunar calendar is a national holiday, it's a joyful and romantic day for young people, but on the other hand, there is also painful history that South Korean don't know.  As a child while suffering from the famine, there were sick people in each family. The North korean people have been able to celebrate the traditional holiday, Jeongwol Daeboreum since it was permitted by the Communist Party again. So people could enjoy it at least that day.  I've known that for South Korean people, the traditional holiday has been going on. Of course my wish this year is peace and better relations between South and North Korea. I will be waiting for the day to see this beautiful night view in Pyongyang with South Korean people in the near future. I hope you are healthy and I can't tell you about my private wishes because I'm so shy. 😅          

Jeongwol Daeboreum, the day of the first full moon of the lunar year is the traditional holiday for South and North Korea to celebrate the new year and wish upon the full moon. After the announcement of the "Ten principles of the establishment of the single ideological system of the the Party" in 1974, North Korea had banned it as a national holiday by the tendency of the eradication of superstition. However they couldn't prevent the old custom and people were full of complaints, going through the famine since 1994. They ended up to designate it as a national holiday in order to disperse the complants of the leader into god. Since then, there's been a humor of 'Jeongwol Daeboreum' among North Korean people.
