WHAT IS A COMMERCIAL AND INDEPENDENT MAGAZINE?
From researching, I found that commercial magazines tend to advertise different products and brands within the magazine, possibly as a way to keep publicising the magazine whereas independent magazine focuses on their own brand and content, for example if it was i-D Magazine, the focus point would be about fashion, also I've learnt that in most independent magazines, they would collaborate with other brands to advertise them but keep it related to it's subject.
HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF A COMMERCIAL AND INDEPENDENT MAGAZINE:
The image on the left, you could see that it's advertising a Cartier watch. What I've also realised about a lot of commercial publications is that they're quite minimalistic in terms of the way they display different brands, they tend to use a lot of double page spreads and minimal text. The right image shows a photo series of the army in Columbia, more of a documentary style of work.
