Week 2: Face Icon #s5097845 #mvm19

Above is this weeks task which is to create a web icon of ourselves as a concept for a profile picture.
This is the image that I'm referencing to for my web icon for inspiration and guidance.
First Attempt
This was completely inspired by the examples shown on out task sheet but it seemed way too easy with a side of creepy. I wanted to add a bit more detail without making it too difficult whilst keeping it basic and simple.
Second attempt
I was very happy with the result of my second attempt as this definitely resembled me and brought it more 'life', but the face shape and the hair was still an issue
First mission was to create the head shape, which was the hardest. Using a range of shapes, mainly the rectangle tool (and adjusting the widgets to round the corners), the ellipse tool and the line tool, as well as the shape builder tool to view and manipulate objects to modify them exactly how I liked it.
Finally joining them together, using the grouping tool created a reasonably accurate shape of my own face
Next was the ear, also using the ellipse tool and the shape builder tool. I also adjusted the ear colour to give more contour to the face, but still keeping it realistic.
Then I created the eye which was just a different coloured and sized ellipses. Then to give this image as sense of light and reality, I removed a section of the blue circle to create a pie shape.
Using the paint tool, I created some eyelashes to make my face more feminine. It was awesome to use the paint tool as it automatically corrects your lines to a neater straighter line, which was ideal for this scenario.
With the eyebrows, I also used a range of different ellipses, the shape builder tool and grouped them all together to make one shape
For to the nose, I wanted to do something plain and simple that you could find when creating an avatar on Wii, Xbox or even Mathletics. So I attempted to create a button nose which was to give shape that there is something there because without it, it just looked strange.
Final Outcome
Last of all was the hair, finding the right colour was difficult in the colour spectrum inside the illustrator program, but I managed to find one that did represent blonde hair colour without it looking to orange or yellow.

Within the end product, there were few minor tweaks of the sizes of things through the creation of my web icon and I'm really happy with the outcome, although the face shape still isn't 100% me.
