Final version
My final version of the icon. It was bit of a learning curve as I am more use to using software such as Photoshop and Lightroom for editing which use pixels and effects rather than points and placement of shapes as Illustrator does.

Upon setting up Illustrator which I have never used before I had to set swatches to color my project, unlike Photoshop which has preset color swatches Illustrator does not until added via bringing up the palette then dragging the swatches to the swatches panel. Custom swatches can also be made by using the eyedropper tool then dragging the fill color square to the swatch collection.
I created names for each part to simplify finding and managing sections of the icon as I had to create each section primarily using the pencil tool and fill tools for coloring. I also had to configure the layers and moved things such as pathfinder to the side panel for easy access.
Added background and mouth before adding colors and nose and ears for final product.
Early work creating the basic face shape, hair and eyes.
Examples provided by client in the brief for reference. Our brief was to create an icon for a technology company to use as profile icons for their employees accounts.
