Freedom to Read Week 2019
For the Book and Periodical Council’s Freedom to Read Week 2019, my partner Gil Martinez and I have the added honour of creating a retrospective illustration for the event’s 35th anniversary.
Posters from previous years are arranged in a vertical subway-tile fashion against a black background. White is the next main colour in the palette, further allowing the amazing art from past years to shine through. A secondary palette of red, blue, and yellow—colours that have so clearly influenced many of the previous designers—helps thread everything together.
Disturbance and Trade Gothic continue as the main fonts, with Adobe Caslon Pro resuming its duties for body copy in the magazine.
