Orc Underbite Typeface

ORC UNDERBITE
Display Typeface with a Slight Attitude Problem

Hours of exploring the vast worlds of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Mass Effect, and a little bit of Fallout (i.e., avoiding real world responsibilities) prompted the concept for Orc Underbite. Orc began as a project for my college typography class, and evolved into an informal exploration of typeface design.

The "Block" typeface was created in 2013 for a class project, and following multiple redesigns, the finished product possesses ample kerning and leading to balance the negative space within each of the 84 characters. The entire font family includes the original "Block" type, two weights of "Spike" (regular and bold), and an additional stylistic variation called "Bubble."

The initial drafting process for the sci-fi/fantasy typeface Orc Underbite used a grid system via Fontstruct.com to develop a typeface reminiscent of classic 8-bit video games. Knife-edge embellishments establish an intense, stalwart aesthetic evocative of the popular fantasy race which inspires it.

Note: All photography in this project is my own. This includes macro photography of a labradorite cabochon, the Las Vegas strip, Lake Mead Recreation Area, and Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada.
