Bohemian Paradise - Pattern Collection
The Bohemian Paradise
Surface Pattern Design By Sahar Heumesser
Feb.2019

‘’The Bohemian Paradise‘’ is the theme for surface pattern design challenge hold by Spoonflower on Feb.2019.
The brief for this challenge :
Close your eyes and picture yourself in a tropical oasis.
Do you see oversized palm leaves swaying in the breeze or bold pops of color from the flora like Birds of Paradise?
This week, we’re challenging you to create a repeating design that will ignite bold patterns and opulent plant life.
The Hero Pattern of this collection is my answer to the Brief of this design challenge.
The whole collection is AVAILABLE FOR LICENSING.

The Design Process
For this pattern I decided to go with multiple exotic plants and flowers such as monster leaf, palm leaves, ferns, lily of the valley and so on that evoke a feeling of rainforest. I also added a pineapple and a toucan bird to make it even more tropical.
All the illustrations were drawn in Adobe Illustrator.
To present an opulent plant life, I decided to use a rich color palette with variety of shades and 3 overlapping layers under the main pattern to imply the depth of the forest.
Eventually, I provided a set of coordinated patterns to make them work together as a collection.
For secondary patterns, I used the same elements and color scheme in a way that would make them complement the hero pattern instead of competing with it.
