This is the almost complete making of Andrew Snow, commander of the Lights Watch.

I was commissioned to make a John Snow version of my friend Andrew by Triggerfish animation studios for his 10 year anniversary at the company.

There is a bit of an inside joke as he is the lead of lighting and they guard renders and use Game of thrones memes all the time. Lights watch, nights watch ya...you get the idea :p

I started stalking Andrew to get lots of reference photos and got allot of John Snow pictures too. Sadly I have never watched the series so allll the reference needed to be found.

These images were great because I could see all the details and straps and work out how to layer the clothing and the feel of the materials.

This was my chosen sketch. Simple pose but good for tight deadline of a month O_O

Trying to see how simple I could make his face but still making it look like Andrew.

Armature.

First hair attempt was awful, he looked like one of the Beatles XD

Second hair attempt wins \:D/

Used a blade to make this bit look more weathered.

Made his shirt thing with paper first to work out the pattern.

I put clay over his mouth to do beard tests lolol.

Drew marks with koki pens which made the clay look more leathery.

Tried acrylic paint for this beardy test.

Adding arm armature wire.

I decided original concept pose was not going to work and new plan was to have one arm up holding the lantern. I cut a hole into the shoulder and stuffed clay in to lift his shoulder up and make the pose right.
