The symbolism of vertical flow
We were commissioned by Taresso to develop the packaging design and the name of their filter coffee. The name was given as a reference to the right way of coffee brewing, a dedicated process that takes time. Ritual - a strictly defined process repeated and followed consistently. Along with the name, the design was inspired by the unique mechanics of the hourglass. Measuring time by using a perfect regulated vertical flow of a material from the top vessel that runs down to the bottom one, is a representation of the filter coffee preparation. All being part of a ritual. We deliberately kept the packaging as white as possible, hinting the subtle analogy of the hourglass concept. To achieve this, we highlighted the volume that the sand occupies in the hourglass through a positive-negative space innuendo.
