I was commissioned to create a new logo for Alejandro Amenabar's production company Himenoptero.
Alejandro is one of Spain's finest directors, he won and Oscar in 2005 for the film "Mar Adentro" ( The Sea Within )
I reached the concept of his logo by asking the question - "What is the role of a film director?" the aswer: -"To tell stories"
So I set out to produce a graphic form that could hold many meanings, as many, as stories Alejandro will tell.
I chose 3 elements to synthesize:
1. The mind, and the depth of the subconscious. Represented as the ink stains used in phycology that were invented by Hernann Rorschach.
2. Seduction. Identified as the colors of a rare flower.
3. Danger, to this end I chose the body and shape of an insect, and as Himenoptero comes from Hymenoptera, the family of insects of bees, I used the from of the body and wings of a bee.
The result is and intriguing organic form, which plays with symbology to interact with the inner layers of our mind.
