Terry Fox Memorial Etching

The Terry Fox Memorial unveiled in 1984 outside the Canada Place
stadium in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

I had the dubious reputation of the pointalist illustrator within the graphic design industry of Vancouver back in the late 70's and 80's. This gave me the opportunity (well suited to photo engraving) to produce the illustration that would become the etching affixed to the South wall of the Terry Fox Memorial.Sadly learned that this will be torn down during the stadium retrofit, but at least his parents get to keep the stainless steel panels.

The panels are 10ft wide by approximately 30ft high and were etched in stainless steel.
Here I'm finalizing the pointalist illustration in preparation for delivery to the manufacturer in 1983 and it provides the viewer with the enormous comparison in scale between the drawing and the final etching. I produced multiple preliminary sketches for discussion and final approval by both the Architects and the Parents and family of Terry Fox prior to this final piece.
Franklin Allen, the architect who designed the controversial Terry Fox memorial at BC Place, says he is very hurt by the decision of PavCo to rip it down and replace it with another piece. The etchings will be given to Terry's parents and Doug Coupland has been commissioned to design a new memorial honoring this Canadian hero.
