Langprism – crowdsourcing translation

This project gained recognition in the Russian startup community and beyond. Dynamic identity is based on the juxtaposition of a blocky font with handwriting and doodles. The community spirit is communicated through smiley faces.

CHALLENGE
Langprism needed a memorable image to stand out from the crowd of IT startups. The main goal was to grow the audience of interpreters but also appeal to investors and potential clients. The style got to be flexible and applicable in diverse environments: from stickers and t-shirts to presentations and the website.
(I grew a lot as a web designer since this project
– that's why you don't see the website layouts here.)

INSIGHT
I benchmarked the brands of direct and indirect competition. And discovered a niche that allowed to combine a creative approach along with the best design practices (dynamic yet consistent identity, user-centricity). The main target audience was analyzed: young digital native freelance interpreters.

Solution
I created a dynamic identity based on the juxtaposition of a blocky font with handwriting and doodles. A playful mascot (smiley face) was used by me in multiple applications from pins to presentations and the website. It represents the online community through the language of emoticons (predecessors of modern emojis and bitmojis).
Below you can see earlier concepts playing on ideas of a prism refracting languages and a patchwork/puzzle bringing different languages together.
