Art Direction & Contributions to Activity Desk Packages

In my time at VTech, I worked extensively on iterations of the Activity Desk and it's expansion packs.  I weighed in offering design solutions and art directing the packaging.  I started with the Touch and Learn Activity Desk Deluxe.  I had little influence on the design.

When the latest version was being developed- the Explore & Write Activity Desk, I played a role in creating a look that was similar to the previous desk but also different enough to showcase new features; both the Touch and Learn Cards and the new writing feature needed to be prominently displayed.  In addition to showing these features, the desk also featured four states that I made sure were also clearly detailed.

I also directed the photography and tried to include more of the natural environment on the box. Work on this packaging was a collaboration across VTech teams.

I also played a significant role in determining the layout for the expansion pack bundles.  While I worked on all of the expansion pack development (ten titles?), the bundles presented a new challenge of associating the pack series with the desks and then again with the age ranges served. I used elements from the individual packs and their color designations to propose solutions that helped to arrive at the final designs.

I also helped offer a solution once the Explore and Write Desk hit the market. The challenge was to create a package that served both customers.  I altered the layout slightly to show both genders and both desks represented on the packaging.  I also suggested removing the specific desk titles and simplifying the title to Activity Desk Expansion Pack.
These are the previous Touch and Learn Activity Desk Deluxe packages that the Explore and Write (above) is based on. (I was not highly involved in these designs.)
