Textile materials, clothes and their codes are time travel analog messages from the past which communicate personal worldview, political and geographical contexts. “The Future is Unwritten” is a speculative design project which invites Split local makers to consider their inherent skills from the past and project them into a future technological context. A sailmaker, a seamstress, and a crochet crafter were invited to make a suit resistant to the mediterranean phenomena Jugo and Bura with local materials; like reused sailcloth donated by a local sailmaker for the raincoat . They make an analog textile message travel through time to the future inhabitants of Split.
For this I researched about handmade codes and patterns in other cultures. Then I ask to Split crafters their message to future inhabitants and I encoded it. The message can be encoded again by reading through the glossary I have created.
