Methadone Skies (RO) - "Different Layers of Fear" art

“Different Layers of Fear” - a Methadone Skies experience.

I remember the first time I’ve listened to Methadone Skies it was a song called “Tatabong” and I was instantly hooked by it. It’s one of those songs that will really cling on you. And it sticks, it won’t let go, at least not for the days or weeks that’ll follow. It’s the type of song that when you’re not pressing the “repeat one” option, you add them for two times in a row in a playlist just because you can and why not?!... it’s your playlist anyway.
I was also obsessed at some point with their “Enter the Void” album. Sunny summer days they were, followed by long autumn inking sessions for several of my past artworks while listening to their “Colosseus” album as well. They have a unique way of putting you sometimes in front of yourself, or sometimes as an observer, explorer within a universe where the past and the future are present. That type of music that you will always turn back to and each time you do, you’re feeling hooked again and submerged into a state of same intensity as if it were the first time you are experiencing it.
In my perspective I’ve always had more like two sides, two different camps of sorting my music. There are those songs which you want to have them in your playlist cuz they’re catchy, giving you a short boost of something depending on how you feel at that point, and there is the other kind of music material, the one I tend to raise upon a pedestal. Because either taken individually or as a group, they will form a whole.
This last kind is the rarest, and after several years of blasting all sorts of music in my speakers for at least 10 hours a day, I can still sum up those albums and count them on my fingers. They always resonate with my inner self at the highest peaks no matter how I feel at that specific moment, always striking and taking me through a complex range of emotions. Not knowing how or understanding why this is happening, I’m always letting myself be carried loose by that boat of visions. Robo-blocked in a fourth dimension. Wrapped by fear, anger, joy, love, happiness, bombarded randomly by each or all at the same time. A certain type of music that I consider to be overwhelming, music that fills you up with energy and determination, music that lifts up your spirit, music that rearranges things inside you like “disk defragmentation” option does to a computer. If that isn’t a pure form of manifested art, then I don’t know what art is.
This is how I’ve always perceived Methadone Skies and the music created by them. I’ve spent a large amount of hours listening to them while working or just relaxing and was a fan of their music before I got to know them personally a couple of years back. When I did, they shortly became family.
An yet, whatever I knew about Methadone Skies and however I felt about the music they produced until that point, turned out to be a mere particle of sand from a vast desert when I first listened to a couple of tracks from this new album of theirs. At that moment those tracks were just raw materials, not mastered or even mixed. I remember I felt like it was a special moment where I’m witnessing the birth of something truly epic. The idea of this artwork was born that way, while witnessing one of their full rehearsals for this album, last year.
I was blown away. Chocked. I trembled. I was so scared and felt so little. I don’t know if their goal was to reach the top of a mountain, but they somehow manage to flow above it. And each time they gave me a newer version of something, I felt like what I’ve done until that point didn’t raised the bar enough to reach at least the same level. I’ve only had a clear and strong vision that it must have the look and feel of something meant to be sacred. A Grail if you will, undoubtedly a treasure.
And those creatures I saw flying above those energy beacons during that rehearsal, turned out to be Griffins. Because the lion was traditionally considered the king of the beasts and the eagle the king of birds by the Middle Ages, the Griffin was thought to be an especially powerful and majestic creature. Since classical antiquity, Griffins were known as guardians of treasures and priceless possessions.
So how does one create a visual representation of something that he considers to be so pure and powerful? Till this day, I still have this impression that for a proper/better way of displaying a graphical illustrated imagery result for this album, one will need a whole chapel to create it. I consider it to be that majestic.

I am beyond honored to have a part on this project, it is a sort of a dream come true for me. And as their friend, I am so proud of them for what they have accomplished with this album.
An album created with the purest form of passion and countless hours of effort.
An album recorded at Consonance Studio in Timisoara by Edmond Karban, Cristian Popescu & Andrei Jumugă (all members of dordeduhSunset in the 12th House).
An album mixed and mastered by James Plotkin (that has worked with an amazing array of artists including Neurosis, Isis, Nadja, Tim Hecker, Fennesz or Acid Mothers Temple etc).
On this album additional keyboards and synthesizers were added by Marius Muntean (The Thirteenth SunBlack Water).
On ‘A Glitch in the Sun’ song, the band collaborated for a second time with Davide Straccione (ZIPPOShores Of Null), who recorded vocals for the one and only “Tatabong” from "Eclectic Electric" album, the song that got me into the Methadone Skies realms.
I wouldn’t know how to describe better this album then more like a sum of meanings playing joyfully and dancing around the “Magic” term, but I do know that what you’ll experience by listening to it can definitely be considered as such.

This year Methadone Skies are celebrating 10 years of their existence, releasing this album on the date of 10th of May. I bow before them, thanking for all the numerous inspiring moments spent while listening to their musical creations.
And I urge you all to join me in wishing them a Happy 10th Anniversary!
