Back in the 80's/90's Brent Hambrick was instrumental in developing the Columbus disc golf scene and its most notable course.  It was here that he hosted the Columbus Open which was a prestigious event on the national PDGA tour.  Sadly for those that loved him and all of us that never got to know him, he passed away from his battle with leukemia in 1997.  After his passing the tournament  and course were renamed in his memory.

This year I was honored to be asked to design a fresh logo for both the Amature part of the tournament, affectionately called the Ambrick, and the Professional event.  In addition they had me create a stamp to be put on discs sold as fundraisers for the BHMO tournament.  Truly the most special pro-bono work I've been a part of.
The final design for the amature side of the tournament.  Featuring a stylized view  I made of the famous dam that connects to the course.  What makes this part of the dam special, is during the final round of 9 holes for the top 4 men and 3 women a tee shot is taken by all from inside the shelter on the end of the damn down to a hole below.  It makes for a very unique view as well as a signature hole for the tournament as its not in play on the course at any other time.   Credit to Lost Type for the awesome fonts as always.  Here I utilized Outage and Franchise.  Because this logo will be hot stamped on discs there were certain limitiations I followed, the most notable being that it work as a 1 color design.
The final layout for the Pro tournament, held on a different date than the Am this year.   My aim was to create something different enough from the AM design but with a cohesive feel.  Thats why we utilized the same stylized illustration of the Dam I created but much more of it.   The emphasis remains on Hambrick, but this time with different typefaces and layout. The fonts are all from Lost Type, with some slight modifications by me to fit the design. Most notably the addition of angled serifs on Hambrick to hep create a feeling of movement/ flight along with the bold lines with angled ends to match the angle of the K.
