BOTanic Garden - A p5.js generative artwork

{BOTanic Garden;}
By Luca Larcher & Lorenzo Ferrulli
We created a simulation of a natural environment that shows the growing process of some plants in a meadow. We wanted to show the main characteristics of a tree life, like birth, reproduction and death.
The landscape is procedurally-generated, which means that the computer has some rules to follow in order to generate the image, but the rest is completely random so the viewer can expect to see something different every time he watches the simulation. For this reason, we entitled the project “BOTanic Garden”, because it is some kind of bot that “controls” the artwork.

It starts with a little plant somewhere on the screen. As time passes, the sun rises and the tree starts to grow. When the growth process is completed, the plant has two possibilities: in the first it reproduces itself by growing another plant on the screen, in the second it dies. When another tree spawns it follows the same life path: in this way the landscape continues to change. We wanted all the process to have a slow progression, to simulate the slowness of nature.
Thanks for watching!
