Dealing with Stress

These are graphics that I made for a Ke Alaka'i article, written by Esther Insigne. The article covers how students can deal with stress and stay productive. I illustrated some of the solutions mentioned in the article, including: exercise, meditation, watching movies, photography, and yoga.

One of my goals when I started on this project was to make sure the graphics fit the theme of the article. I did this by taking material from the article as my base idea. From there, I used bright colors and a fun, cartoony artistic style to interest the reader.
EXERCISE: This above graphic was inspired by the students and outdoor landscape of the Brigham Young University of Hawaii campus. In the early morning, many students stay active by jogging around campus. Of course, their early runs allow them to see the beautiful hedges and palm trees lit by the rising sun. Dragonflies and butterflies, as well as a variety of birds, are commonly seen as well.
MEDITATION: This graphic was a simple take on what BYU Hawaii students might do to meditate. Snacks and good reading material are recommended by this artist.
MOVIE NIGHT: A common favorite among students. If not the local Laie Palms Cinemas, students can enjoy movies in their own hales lounge areas and units.
PHOTOGRAPHY: As mentioned above, BYU Hawaii is host to a wide variety of birds. Students enjoy watching them forage in the grass and chase after lawn mowers. This bird in particular is the Pacific Golden Plover, a bird that flies between Hawaii and Alaska every year.
YOGA: This activity is enjoyed by quite a few students here. In the evening, groups of students will do yoga together, using beach towels in place of yoga mats. Calm music is occasionally played as well.
