Anthony Bland | Merrill Lynch's profile

Museum of Discovery and Science Great Gravity Clock

Anthony Bland leverages the education he received from the University of North Carolina MBA program to serve as the managing director and market executive at Merrill Lynch Global Wealth & Investment Management in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Anthony Bland formerly served on the board of directors of the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) in Fort Lauderdale.

Officially founded in 1992, MODS evolved from the Discovery Center, a hands-on museum developed by the Junior League in 1977. Since its founding, MODS has become one of the top attractions in the Fort Lauderdale area and has earned honors from organizations and publications such as TripAdvisor and Parenting magazine.

Nearly a half million guests visit the museum each year to explore a wide range of exhibits, including the Great Gravity Clock. The largest kinetic energy sculpture in Florida and one of only three such structures in the world, the Great Gravity Clock rises more than 50 feet and uses the power of gravity to move balls through a set of three rails, with each rail representing a digit of the current time. Initially installed in 1993, the clock underwent a complete restoration in 2016-17.
