Tableau - Prop Making and Graphics
During a joint university project between Set Design and Film Production students, I carried out the role of Co-Production Designer on a short film. I produced a script breakdown, sourced, bought and made props, discussed and approved filming locations, adhered to a budget and kept records of expenses. I also corresponded with the Producer, Co-Directors and Co-writers and attended crew meetings, as well as dressed the sets and oversaw props during filming.
One of the props that I created for this short film was a Last Will and Testament document. I produced the graphics and made it reflect an aged and fanciful style at the Co-Directors’ request. I researched the layout and content of wills and then produced my own version on Word, incorporating elements required by the script. Once printed, I used tea to stain and age the document, roughed the edges and folded the paper into envelopes, which I had put through the same process. Finally, I melted wax to seal and stamp the document. The will was a significant prop, therefore I produced four identical copies; this allowed for multiple takes of the actor breaking the seal and ripping open the envelope to read it.
