Canarie is a media for information such as people, lifestyle, and culture delivered by people living in Canada. They aim to provide recognition to people help them what they are, and what they want to do by showing individual story from many backgrounds.

A client asks:
They were going to renew the website entirely, and they wanted to have new visual concepts.
I was asked to make illustrations for each topic, icon, member intro page, and searching result page.
Illustrations had to be fun, and simple, but also a client wanted to me to use my style which is mosaic art.
Step 1: Member insight / colour
I kicked off to ask Canarie’s member what it would be if Canarie had a colour. Members said that if Canarie had a colour, it wouldn’t be one colour, but rainbow colours showing diversity.
I discussed the colour palette more with a member, and we came up with those 5 colours.
Step 2: Concept art
Canarie has a logo shaped as a bird and the copy for it is “Perching With You.” The story behind it is “Canarie is the tree where many birds from all over the world are perching together.”
Concept art had to be bird. Inspired by a story where “Perching With You,” I created 4 unique birds perching on a tree with leaves around them, so that it looks like you’re having a peek at birds gathering through leaves.

Step 3: Illustrations for topics and its icons
For Canarie, the client were thinking of an illustration as one from an artist, Nullbarich’s music video, “NEW ERA.”
After reviewing the video, I decided to use the combination of the strings and mosaic.
There are 5 topics which are “ Interview,” “Study,” “Lifestyle,” “Hangout,” and “Travel.”
I made sure mosaic was involved well, but not too complicated when making illustrations for topics and its icons.

Canarie asked me to use a magnifying glass. I drew a woman holding a magnifying glass.
Woman’s face is covered up with leaves, and the only part being looked through a magnifying glass shows the veins of leaves.
For member intro page, I was asked to make a tree for birds to perch on.
