I started this massive project in Illustrator. Because I have never actually used Illustrator before, I really wanted to challenge myself by designing my boards solely on Illustrator. After a lot of trial and error, I produced this finished product!
I immediately sent my designs to the printer where I got a giant sticker ready for my longboard. I had to cut out my stickers before I could attach them to the bottom of my board.
With help, I carefully placed my stickers on my boards and rolled out any air bubbles I could find.
I then began to construct the rest of my display. My project is all about the past and the future uniting in the present to make me who I am. I focused on Southern California, Denver, and Pittsburgh to make this happen. That being said, I knew I wanted to display my boards on a giant map, so I started with designing and printing my own on a large canvas.
I then needed to stretch my map onto a board so it would lie flat and allow me to mount my skateboards. My school was getting rid of a pair of wings that had been painted on these giant pieces of wood, so I took one and cut it to the size I needed!
I designed and cut vinyl sticker to places on my map to match the circles that were on my boards.
I then began the process of mounting my boards on my map. I used pvc pipes to elevate my boards off the map.
After mounting my boards and placing my sticker, I wired the back of the board so I could hang my project on the wall.
Voila! After hanging it on the wall, my project is finished!
