Freudian Slip

This piece explores the tension between illustration aimed at adults and children. At first, this appears to be a wondrous image for children's books, reminiscent of Victorian age illustration. But upon closer inspection, it becomes clear to the viewer that this image has a much darker and more somber tone. On a visual level, this illustration explores this same tension through the composition and alternate points of directional focus.
