Chef Rescue is a mobile game, by Tapps Games, where you have to cook different dishes to serve different restaurant's costumers within a given time.
My work in this game ranged from Art Direction to logo's design and app icon. My work was creating buildings for the game's map, illustrated foods and animated dishes' stations. I was also responsible for leading some freelancers that worked for the company to help us create more themed restaurants within deadlines.
The game has a Map where you can select which restaurant you will help.My job was to create some of them, such as the Aquarium and the following buildings below.
This was one of the restaurants I had the pleasure of Art Directing both the outside building and interior. I was very happy with the opportunity because of my love for the mexican culture, food and its history. One of the most visually iconic and stunning celebration is Día de Los Muertos, the chosen theme to represent the mexican cuisine.
We were working with a freelancer to help us finish the work within a tight deadline. Here's the moodboard and color pallete I created to guide us and give some ideas. Below it are my sketches for each version of the main dishes that were going to be prepared at the restaurant.
Since the game is about helping restaurants that are of going downhill, I decided to search for things that remind most people of urgency and rescue. Firefighters badges seemed like the perfect place to start! The final logo is the mixture of all the main ideas in the game: rescuing, chef, kitchen utensils and fire (which relates to danger, urgency and the act of cooking).
The main protagonist seemed like our best bet to call attention in the app stores, since there were few women portrayed as Chefs. We tested different colors (blue and orange as the main ones), the angle of presentation but also what she'd be holding in her hand.
The winner of the tests was the orange one in the middle, so it became the official icon.
