SHIPYARD   SERIES

Located in the heart of Old Town, Gdańsk, on the historical The Granary Island, PURO Hotel emanates the exceptional atmosphere of the area. The raw and industrial character of interiors designed by the London-based interior design practice DeSallesFlint refers to the looks of historic granaries and the port’s aesthetic. The hotel was selected by Wallpaper Magazine for „Best Urban Hotels 2015”.

I was asked by Double Decker, London based curating agancy, to create a series of one-off design objects for Puro Gdańsk lobby. Following PURO philosophy, where a local context plays a key role, I was inspired by the Gdańsk Shipyard – the area where socially significant events shaped the local (and Polish) identity. After multipule visits in the shipyard's area I gathered the scrap metal from the site - 250 kg of the rusty materials got into my studio. On inspiring process of selection, composition, polishing and experimenting with a rust, the collection of ten shipyard artefacts emerged. Objects consists of polished and raw scrap metal, combined with a coal that I used as a sculptural material.
