An Introduction to Special Effects
First Adobe After Effects Edit
Activity 1
Part 1

Special Effects- is the concept of creating visual images for videos and films that leads the viewer into thinking that something that was computer generated is real. This can be from be from false props, backgrounds and other things that may be hard illegal or to expensive to do for real. Ex.) Explosion of the Building or an extremely gory scene.

Visual Graphics-  Where imagery is created or manipulated in the post-production area of a film or movie.

Practical Effects- Practical Effects are Special Effects that are made physically and not with computer generated graphics.

Chroma key- Is replacing a colour or a colour range with another media such as Video or Pictures to combine 2 or more images together
Green Screen- A background that is green so that it can be easily overlayed on the final project for moving or stationary objects
Garbage Matte- is used to cut out are around an object so only areas of focus are only taken
All of the them relate to being used to insert certain portions of video in compations, a green screen is physical thing while Garbage Mattes and chroma keys are more like editing choices or concepts.

Examples of Practical Effects
Gremlins- Gremlins,
Alien- Aliens,
Preditors- Preditor,
Moon's Eye- A Trip to the Moon,
Size- Elf
Notes On After Effects
How does a user import footage in After Effects?-
Either do click file at the top > Import > File
or
double click in the project window or right click and chose the files you want.
What are “Motion Graphics”?
It is prettty much animated graphic design with moving images and videos.
What is Compositing?
combining visuals from seperate projects or videos to make them act as one Video or project.
What is Frame Rate?
The number of pictures or images that project, movie, animation and game have in a second. If you see 60 pictures in a second you have Frame-Rate Per Second (FPS) of 60.
What is a composition?
This is other words is a project in whole, all the clips, images and audio combined together.
Why should you use RAM Preview for playback?
You should use RAM preview since it gives you an idea of the project you are working on before you go to render it. It will save the editor or compositor a lot of time.
What is adaptive resolution and OpenGL?
Adaptive resolution is when you are scrolling through your compostion and want to find and area you are looking for.  It lowers the resolution of your compostion so that it can scroll fast with out overwhelming the ram and get you an idea of the image on screen at the time as well. OpenGL is the rendering application that allows this to happen.
Outline the steps required to export compositions
1.) Add composition to render que
2.)Get the best settings that fit your qualifications
3.) Select your path you want it to save it to.
4.) Then render it
5.) Check if it is what you want it to look by looking at the exported file.
Activity 2
Part 1-Preparing for shots
Part 2- Recording 4 Videos
Sorry for Shadows!!!
5 Pictures!!!
Part 3- Basic Video Editing
Video 1.) For this clip, I used a wave warp effect on the background image of lockers. I did this because the lockers have distinct vertical lines which makes it look good. As for the guy, I found it on green screen site. Also, for the guy, I used an effect called Change to Colour and keyed it at different moments. Combining these two effects makes it look hallucinogenic episode.
Video 2.) The first thing I did when making this was I used a fast blur effect near the end. This was because I knew that I was going to use lens flare and cameras usually go out of focus. Next, I brought in a lens flare, a dragged it to the top left corner. I keyframed it so it would move to the bottom by the video. At her waist, I expanded the lens flare till the end video. When all was done I used a glow effect to fit the mood of the scene correctly. Once that was done, I rendered.

Activity 6: Expressions and 3D Integration
Expressions

3D Integration Projects: Done in 2 Videos to demonstrate different aspects of 3D Space.

Activity 7:Motion Graphics
In my opinion, motion graphics are anything to do with videos that have been manipulated. Motion graphics can be anything from movement of a shape or video, color, or some other change. Motion graphics can also be considered special effects when it gives off an illusion, or tricks my mind.
A special part of motion graphics is particle systems, which is used when something of a consistent pattern is extremely hard to create manually. IE.) Fire. Particle effects are often used to create graphics for TV or Film.
