Profiel van Pearson Chambers

Spring Semester 2018

My figurative work presents narratives that articulate my position as a Black Male. I begin to investigate predominant themes in my current paintings: masculinity, sexuality, and intergenerational trauma, all of which are linked to my mis-education as a Black Man in America.I connect personal experiences to the plight of African Americans by applying my interest in digital photography , Africana Literature, collage, and contemporary Afro Cinema, to the human form. By employing the figure and such interest; I aim to deconstruct previous events that have amalgamated my identity. My practice equips me with the necessary tools to properly question and display once unperceived struggles. Additionally, it grants me  the opportunity to reflect on various social constructs.
