Darker Than Fiction
Create a paperback book for the novel Darker than Fiction, short stories by Marcus Bastel. Design the cover, front, back and spine for the book. From the short stories I began deriving key motifs and concepts that could spark some initial ideas. The short stories this book contains all hold an element of mystery and ambiguity.
Initial Sketches.
I was particularly intrigued by the story Blind Man's Bluff. That sparked an interesting idea about the blind side of humanity. "We see what we want to see."
One concept I also deduced from the short stories was the motif of duality. Even if you are in a dark moment in life there's always a thin light to chase and free yourself. I combined these both concepts to come up with an idea for the cover.
Book layout.
The outcome.
For the cover I wanted to mirror the feelings, emotions and ambience of a particular situation which occurred to the main character of the Blind Man's Bluff.
