Task: Naming, branding and package design for a new coffee brand.
Coffee in drip bags is a very popular solution in Japan. Recently it was introduced to mass markets of the North America and Europe. And now this product is coming to Russia.
Everybody knows tea bags. They are very useful when you want to make tea fast and easy. And what about coffee? It is always quite a problem when you want to make a cup of richly flavoured grounded coffee (and not the instant one). Well, it was a problem until drip coffee bags.
Our task was to create a brand and package design that would not only sound and look good but also would explain distinctly the new way of coffee brewing.
Coffee drip bags give you an opportunity to get yourself a good cup of grounded coffee easily and without using any special equipment.
So the product is not just another coffee blend. It provides consumer with a unique way of coffee brewing which is new to the market. This main idea we put in the basis of a fresh looking and a bit outstanding brand design.
While exploring the idea that dripping process is similar to putting ink into the water we came up with an octopus character and a new brand name – Octafé – as a combination of "octopus" and "café". In a way an opened drip bag looks like octopus in a cup.
One-colored vectorized ink forms became brand graphics which has a great development potential. In social media brand graphics is paired with some ambiguous funny messages to underline advantages of the new way of coffee making.
We created a box pack containing 10 individual drip bags. Due to some production restrictions we had to use one shared design for all the blends.
For start Octafé Drip Coffee has 5 different and fine-crafted blends of coffee from all around the world. Also there's one special box containing two of each kind inside.
