In 2016, Te Wānanga o Aotearoa launched a campaign called Te Iwa o Matariki - The Nine Stars of Matariki. Matariki is the Māori name for a cluster of stars which is visible in our night sky at a specific time of the year. Matariki is also known as The Pleiades, in Japan it is known as Subaru and you may recognise the famous branding as it depicts the star group on their logo.

It is a time to celebrate new life, to remember those who’ve passed and to plan for the future. And it’s a time to spend with whānau and friends – to enjoy kai (food), waiata (song), tākaro (games) and haka. 

I created and illustrated this colouring book initially for children, both primary and secondary school level but teachers, parents and people in general have also engaged in it too. It is a great resource for schools, kohanga reo and other learning facilities and you can download for free.
