Accessibility Plan for the Municipality of Burgos
2018-2023 Plan
In 2017 the Municipality of Burgos, Spain, entrust the devepolment of the Accessibility Plan to Fernando García-Ochoa studio.
Burgos is a city in Castilla y León, Spain, with 176.608 inhabitants in 2016, well known for their heritage (UNESCO's Wold heritage site) which is part of the Saint Jame's Path.
The aim of the Plan was to analyze the universal accessibility of the city – including public transports, urban space and municipality buildings – and suggest improvements to suppress architectural barriers. The Plan also gives guidelines to future urban developments or municipality projects to include an universal design or design for all.

To study the accessibility level of Burgos, we analyzed:
• Municipality buildings: 99 buildings.
• Transport: train, bus and taxi stops, cycling routes and municipal bikes stops (bicibur), tourist train routes.
• Urbanism: all streets and  squares in downtown and the most representative ones from other neighborhoods.
• Communication: signs, city lights, panels, posters, touristic and transportation signs, etc. from all around the city.

We took in consideration specific needs of people in wheelchair, people with reduced mobility, blind or visual impaired people, deaf or hearing impaired people and people with different kind of intellectual abilities.

The main objective was to make inhabitants more councious about architectural barriers in their citiy and to propose an inclusive city, designed for all.
