Dark Dark Wood Banner

As a way to improve upon my design skills I found Sharpen.Design, a generator for brand design. I was given the prompt to create a banner for my favorite book in an hour. I chose "In a Dark Dark Wood" by Ruth Ware. The novel revolves around a crime at a bachelorette party and the main character's amnesia of that night. The novel has stuck with me for over a year and I knew I had to design something for this story.
The House
The house is the main setting of the story. Ware's descriptions throughout the book let me envision this house that you see above. Getting a chance to put my ideas into a physical form was an enticing idea. The setting is in a modern house with lots of windows somewhere in Great Britain, though I can't remember exactly where, over a couple of days during a bachelorette party. At one point the main character, Leonora, sees footsteps going out to the garage, which becomes a main piece of evidence Leonora clings to.
I wanted the house to be how I had envisioned it and was given the complement by Ware, herself that, "The house is *exactly* like I imagined it" (instagram).
The Colors
If you look at the original colors of the novel, you will see a lot of white scratches, meant to look like branches on a black background, the title written in a typewritter style font, located in the bottom right hand corner. A quote by Reese Witherspoon, written in red, at the bottom. My goal was to continue this theme as it is already familiar and helps set the tone of the book.
