troost corridor- iteration III

troost public library
The design for the Troost Ave. branch of the Kansas City Public Library establishes a series of transparent spaces, placing the program and internal activities on display. Along with intimate proximity to the existing tower, this serves to attract the public to the site and the building. The site is divided into a front and back yard creating a variety of social spaces. Public space is created along Troost Ave. and Brush Creek Blvd. through a combination of steps and planters which elevate the main level of the library. This level contains a space for community meetings, classes or exhibitions that is physically separated from the main library and can be operated independantly. The rest of the level provides plentiful public access to computers and workspaces. The second level houses the main literary colllection, a variety of reading and work spaces and an exterior roof deck framing a view of the iconic tower.
