It’s 5 am. I’m already in a car on the way to one of the best wineries in Czech Republic. Entering gates of Sonberk is happy beginning of the day. I’m usually first at the place to feel and focus. And when you want to shot morning light you have to be ready.
I decided to document busiest time of the year for every winery. Wine harvest in Autumn. It comes with rush and complications. This time I was on the spot 3 times to create a great picture. It took two photos and almost two year seasons to create this hero image. I always want to shot real people behind the craft. Tell their story. The original picture was taken during the rush season when there was no time for commercial shots because all the people harvest in the fields. That’s why we needed to take another one after the season and we staged the rest. But that’s usually the case of every storytelling shots, you have to play with cards you have.
Vinařství Sonberk is a mid-sized winery in South Moravia with breathtaking view on the hill of Pálava. They do amazing, dry mostly award winning white wines. Their craft is so good that it was a dream to work with them.
Every craft is about people. Made by people. And these guys, Roman, Olda and Dáša are people at the right places.
Few months after the shots they won an award for the best winery in Czech Republic. They deserve it and I hope we will continue in our work together.
