A look at the amount of tracks in the project.
For my summative project, I produced a cover of Figures, a Reprise by Jessie Reyez feat. Daniel Caesar. I had two singers lend their vocal talents to the track, the wonderful Jan Eleno and Jordan Marasigan.
This project was a very positive experience for me. Jordan had decided he wanted this song, different from one we had previously discussed, so I had to scrap the one I was already working on. The most time consuming part of this piece was recreating the instrumental in FL Studios, more specifically going through the different instruments and playing with the plug-ins to achieve a sound most faithful to the original. The most difficult to recreate was the muffled EQ of the constant guitar. I achieved this with Fruity Parametric EQ and Fruity Love Philter. I controlled the effect of these plug-ins with automation clips all throughout the song. There are 8 tracks dedicated to virtual instruments, 13 tracks for automation, and 3 tracks for vocals.
The recording process went by smoothly. There were only a handful of instances where one of my singers would have to retake. Before mixing, I brought each clip of vocals into Adobe Audition and applied the standard process: normalize, compress, equalize, and normalize. When it came to mixing the vocals in FL Studio, I added small amounts of reverb and delay. I also did some panning in the second chorus where the two parts come together, having the male vocals more on the right and the female on the left.
In the end, I am extremely satisfied with the outcome of my project. I think I stayed faithful to the original and my singers did an extraordinary job with the vocals.
